Brief summary: Verum Artes is seeking a Sustainability Specialist with expertise in environmental law, permitting, and stakeholder management. The ideal candidate will be a strong communicator, capable project leader, and advisor on sustainability strategies. Must be fluent in Dutch, experienced in ISO14001, and passionate about driving impactful environmental initiatives.

What you will be doing

Are you ready to shape the future of sustainable mining and environmental transformation? Our client, a global leader in material solutions, is looking for a Sustainability Specialist to join their Sustainability Netherlands department. In this role, you will manage the entire mining lifecycle in the Netherlands, ensuring full compliance with Dutch and EU mining legislation. You will also coordinate sustainability forecasting and lead the transformation of post-mining locations. Working closely with site managers, local teams, and the global sustainability department, you will align sustainability strategies across all operations.

The tasks and responsibilities 

• Oversee and manage all stages of the mining lifecycle in the Netherlands, ensuring long-term environmental and operational sustainability.
• Monitor compliance with Dutch and EU mining laws, environmental regulations, and sustainability standards.
• Provide strategic advice on permitting processes, land rehabilitation, and post-mining transformation.
• Collaborate with European and global sustainability teams to implement environmental policies and sustainability projects.
• Integrate renewable energy solutions into post-mining site planning to enhance sustainable land use.
• Lead environmental impact assessments (EIA) and sustainability reporting efforts.

The job requirements

• A Master's degree in Environmental Management, Environmental Science, Mining Engineering, Sustainability, or a related field.
• 7+ years of experience in mining sustainability, environmental compliance, or ecological coordination.
• Experience with ISO14001 is a plus.
• Expertise in environmental impact assessments (EIA), land rehabilitation strategies, and post-mining redevelopment.
• Strong knowledge of Dutch mining regulations and European sustainability frameworks.
• Familiarity with the integration of renewable energy solutions into former mining locations.
• Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the ability to engage external partners and regulatory bodies, acting as a credible ambassador for sustainability initiatives.
• Comfortable working autonomously while maintaining strong collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
• Fluent in Dutch; English is an advantage.
