About the role

Are you a sustainability professional ready to drive environmental change in the Netherlands? Verum Artes is hiring a Sustainability & Environmental Affairs Specialist for a globally operating client in the mining and materials industry. In this strategic role, you will lead environmental compliance, stakeholder engagement, and post-mining redevelopment projects across the Netherlands. You’ll be part of a mission to transform former mining sites into climate-resilient, future-proof locations — working at the intersection of environmental law, permitting, and sustainable land use.

What you will be doing

• Manage all environmental aspects of the mining lifecycle in the Netherlands.
• Ensure compliance with Dutch mining laws, EU environmental regulations, and ISO 14001 standards.
• Provide expert advice on environmental permitting, land rehabilitation, and post-industrial transformation.
• Lead Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) and sustainability reporting activities.
• Collaborate with internal teams and external partners, including governments, municipalities, and environmental NGOs.
• Integrate renewable energy solutions into redevelopment plans for post-mining sites.
• Align Dutch projects with global ESG and climate policy objectives.

Who you are

• Master’s degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Mining Engineering, or related field.
• At least 7 years of experience in sustainability or environmental affairs in mining, infrastructure, or industrial sectors.
• Strong knowledge of Dutch environmental legislation and EU frameworks.
• Hands-on experience with ISO 14001, EIAs, and post-mining redevelopment strategies.
• Fluent in Dutch (C1 level), English is an advantage.
